Synthetic threat intelligence that separates real users from bots and AI-driven fraud

Innerworks works on the problem of proving that a session belongs to a real person on a real device in a plausible place. The platform ingests device fingerprints, network and location signals including VPN and proxy detection, authentication and payment behavior, and patterns of account activity, then evaluates them together rather than as isolated checks. The company frames this as synthetic threat intelligence: the goal is detecting interactions generated by automation and AI tooling, which increasingly defeat single-signal defenses such as CAPTCHA or a static device check. Customers apply it at the points where fraud concentrates, including registration, login, password reset, checkout, and SMS-triggered flows.

What distinguishes the approach is the adversarial side of the operation. Innerworks runs a red team program, drawing on a community of ethical hackers, that continuously attempts the evasion techniques attackers use, and feeds those results back into the detection models so the system adapts rather than aging. The company reports detecting AI-generated synthetic interactions with roughly 97 percent accuracy, a figure it publishes itself. Innerworks was founded in 2020 in London by Oliver Quie, who serves as CEO, Oscar Hayek as CTO, and Tom Ryan as chief product officer, and raised a seed round of about EUR 3.7M led by AlbionVC with participation from Digital Currency Group and Founders Capital.
