End-to-End Encrypted Messaging and Calling Made in Germany

Chiffry is an encrypted communications app from Chiffry GmbH, a German company positioning the product as a privacy-focused alternative to mainstream consumer messengers. The free edition targets ordinary smartphone users, while premium and business editions serve private and business users with stricter requirements, and public authorities that need to run their own infrastructure. The product carries the IT Security Made in Germany mark, awarded against criteria derived from BSI guidance, and its data center holds ISO 27001 certification.

Message content is encrypted with 256-bit AES in GCM mode, which provides confidentiality and integrity in a single pass. Key exchange uses elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman at a 512-bit curve size, and messages are signed with ECDSA at the same size, so recipients can verify both the sender and that nothing was altered in transit. Encryption is end to end: messages stay encrypted while queued on the server and become readable only on the recipient's device after delivery.

Beyond text, the app handles encrypted voice messages, calls, group chats, and sharing of images, video, contacts, and location, with the basic tier capping groups at ten members. The business edition is the distinguishing piece: rather than routing through the vendor's servers, an organization or public authority can operate its own encryption server, keeping message handling inside its own network and jurisdiction. Client applications have been published for Android, iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone.
