Blockchain Data Platform for Crypto Investigations, Compliance and Fraud Prevention
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in New York, Chainalysis describes itself as the blockchain data platform, supplying data, software, services and research to organizations that need to understand cryptocurrency activity. Co-founded and led by economist Jonathan Levin, the company serves government and law enforcement agencies, tax authorities and regulators, centralized and decentralized exchanges, financial institutions and cybersecurity firms, reporting more than 1,500 customers across over 70 countries and a role in resolving high-profile criminal cases.
The platform's core work is attribution: connecting anonymous blockchain addresses to identifiable real-world entities. A global intelligence team gathers ground-truth attributions from directly observable, verifiable evidence, while machine learning applies two families of clustering heuristics, network-wide rules covering UTXO and EVM chains and hundreds of service-specific rules tuned to individual entity architectures. That intelligence layer spans 29 blockchains and all fungible and non-fungible tokens on smart-contract networks, with new tokens supported within seconds.
Product coverage runs the length of the workflow. Reactor traces funds across chains for investigators, KYT monitors transactions in real time, Address Screening and VASP Risking score counterparties, Sentinel assesses stablecoin risk, and acquisitions Alterya and Hexagate extend the platform into scam and fraud detection and Web3 protocol security. Chainalysis reports clustering accuracy independently validated under the Daubert standard for U.S. federal court admissibility, plus a large in-house investigations and compliance services organization.
