
Software-Based Cyber Range for Hyperrealistic Defensive Exercises
CDeX builds and sells a cyber range: a simulated environment where defensive teams practise against realistic attacks without touching production systems. The platform began in 2015 as a project inside the Polish cybersecurity firm Vector Synergy and was spun out as an independent company in 2022, operating from Poznan. Its buyers are military and national defence institutions, critical infrastructure operators, corporate security teams, and universities that use it as a teaching and assessment tool.
Users create a digital twin of their own environment, recreating networks, subnetworks, machines, and IoT or SCADA devices, then run attack simulations against it. Training scenarios are automated and mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK matrix, and a drag-and-drop scenario builder lets instructors compose custom exercises rather than only running the supplied catalogue. Assessment tooling scores participant performance, so the range doubles as a way to measure a team's readiness or evaluate a candidate.
The platform is entirely software based, installable on a range of hardware, vendor-agnostic in its virtualization, and reached through a browser with no client software to distribute. That matters to defence and critical infrastructure buyers who need the range running inside their own perimeter. CDeX received an NCI Agency award as one of the top ten innovators in its Innovation Challenge for cyber defence training, and in 2023 began grant-funded work on an AI-powered cyber range.
