Finnish Secure Communications, Tactical Radios and Hardened Mobile Devices

Bittium is a Finnish technology company headquartered in Oulu and listed on Nasdaq Helsinki, supplying secure connectivity products to defence forces, government agencies, public-safety organisations and critical infrastructure operators. The business rests on roughly four decades of engineering in advanced radio communications and today spans three areas: Defence & Security, Medical Technologies, and Engineering Services. For 2025 the company reported net sales of EUR 119.3 million and an operating result of EUR 19.4 million.

The Defence & Security portfolio divides into tactical and secure communications. On the tactical side, Tough SDR software-defined radios in handheld, vehicular and unmanned variants form a wireless IP network for battlefield voice and broadband data, supported by the TAC WIN backbone plus network- and device-management tooling. On the secure side, hardened smartphones such as Tough Mobile 2 C run two fully isolated operating systems in dual boot, hold keys in a tamper-proof secure element, apply AES-256 encryption, validate secure boot, and add a hardware privacy mode that disables microphones, cameras and Bluetooth.

Sovereign design and manufacturing in Finland, paired with authority approvals, is the main differentiator: devices are approved for NATO Restricted communications and nationally for CONFIDENTIAL (NCSA-FI, TL III). The SafeMove suite layers mobile VPN, enterprise mobility management, analytics, application whitelisting and end-to-end encrypted messaging across Android, Windows and iOS, holding sessions alive as users roam between networks and deployable on-premise, in the cloud or on air-gapped and tactical networks. Newer releases combine classical cryptography with ML-KEM post-quantum key exchange.
