Founded in 2004 by Tony Gigliotti and headquartered in Danville, California, Autonomic Software builds patch, endpoint, and power management tools for organizations that run McAfee (now Trellix) ePolicy Orchestrator. Rather than selling a standalone console, the company positions its products as native extensions of ePO, targeting enterprises, government agencies, and critical infrastructure operators — notably utilities — that already standardize on that platform and want patching and inventory handled from the same pane of glass as their security policy management.

The core product line is built around ANSA, the company's agent-based Autonomic Network and System Administrator technology. Patch and Application Manager installs as an integrated ePO component and automates scanning, testing, prioritization, and deployment of updates for Windows and Mac endpoints — desktops, laptops, and servers — covering operating system, third-party, and custom application patches. Vulnerability data collected by the agent rolls up into ePO dashboards and Risk Advisor for compliance reporting, while companion Endpoint Manager and Power Manager modules add hardware and software inventory and Wake-on-LAN-driven power policies.

Its closest tie to the market came in 2010, when McAfee agreed to integrate ANSA Platinum components directly into ePolicy Orchestrator, and the vendor still trades on that single-console lineage and a small agent footprint. The company reports that none of its critical infrastructure deployments has experienced a successful cyberattack. It remains a small, unfunded operation of roughly nine employees competing against far larger patch-management players, and its public website currently serves little beyond placeholder content, so buyers largely encounter it through the ePO ecosystem.
