eID-Based Digital Identity Verification and Qualified Electronic Signatures
AUTHADA is a German digital identity provider based in Darmstadt, founded in 2015, that builds eID-based identification and electronic signature services for regulated industries. Its customers are banks and financial institutions, telecommunications operators, e-commerce merchants, and gaming and gambling providers that must verify customers under German anti-money-laundering rules. Publicly named users include Vodafone, Comdirect, and Atruvia, the IT provider for the cooperative Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken network. The company describes a team of roughly thirty people.
The approach reads the chip inside a government-issued document rather than inspecting a photograph of it. A person holds a German ID card or electronic residence permit against an NFC-enabled smartphone and enters the associated PIN, which releases signed attributes directly from the chip, with the check typically completing in under a minute. The same eID rail authorizes qualified electronic signatures, while an onsite variant combines NFC reading with OCR document capture so branch staff can finish enrolment in roughly half the usual time.
Certification is the central differentiator. The firm runs a proprietary eID core certified by Germany's Federal Office for Information Security under Technical Guideline TR-03124, has held identification service provider certification under TR-03128 since March 2020, and has been ISO/IEC 27001 certified since October 2019. It also carries the TeleTrusT "IT Security made in Germany" mark and a positive KJM assessment for age verification. Italy's InfoCert, part of Tinexta, invested in 2020, and a wallet platform now targets eIDAS 2.0 and EUDI wallet connectivity.
