AI-Powered Identity Theft Protection and Digital Safety for Families
Aura delivers consumer-facing digital safety, bundling identity theft protection, credit monitoring, antivirus, VPN, password management, parental controls and personal data removal into a single subscription for individuals and families. The company traces to 2017, when founder Hari Ravichandran launched it as iSubscribed after his own identity was stolen; it adopted the Aura name in 2019, and now reports protecting more than 1.3 million customers.
Protection works by consolidating monitoring streams that consumers would otherwise buy separately. Credit files at Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are tracked alongside linked bank, card and investment accounts, dark web credential exposure, public records covering address changes and home or auto title tampering, and high-risk transaction signals such as payday loan applications. Alerts surface through web and mobile apps, while antivirus, VPN and password-vault functions run on up to ten devices per adult.
Differentiation rests on consolidation and on the remediation layer behind the alerts: white-glove fraud specialists join three-way calls with banks and credit bureaus, assist with freezes and disputes, and plans carry identity theft insurance rated from $1 million to $5 million. Much of the portfolio arrived by acquisition — Intersections and Identity Guard in 2018, Pango and FigLeaf in 2020, Circle Media Labs for parental controls in 2021 — followed by a $140 million Series G in 2025.
