Agentless Secure Backup and Recovery with Built-In Ransomware Scanning

Founded in 1986 by programmer David Farajun and headquartered in Toronto, Asigra builds backup and recovery software for organizations that treat data protection as a security problem rather than a storage one. Customers span financial services, healthcare, government, education, legal and entertainment, and a large share of the business is delivered indirectly through managed service providers and value-added resellers who wrap the platform into their own branded services. The company describes its original product as the industry's first agentless enterprise cloud-based backup and recovery software.

The Tigris Secure Backup Platform runs through a DS-Client component that coordinates jobs at the local network level, avoiding per-endpoint agent installs. Deduplication and block-level delta processing reduce what is written, and the software stays storage-agnostic across local or cloud NAS, SAN and DAS, with certified appliance builds on iXsystems TrueNAS and Zadara. Protected workloads include Windows, Linux and macOS file systems, VMware and Hyper-V, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL and DB2, plus Microsoft 365, Salesforce and Google Workspace.

Where much of the market relies on immutability and air gaps, the argument here is that neither helps when malware is already dormant inside a clean-looking backup. The platform scans bidirectionally, quarantining infected files on ingest and again on restore, and applies content disarm and reconstruction to strip embedded code from documents. Administrative controls add multifactor authentication, multiperson approval for destructive actions, obfuscated repository naming and a soft-delete layer; FIPS 140-2 AES-256 encryption, restore validation and autonomic healing cover recovery, while SaaSAssure and Backup2Cloud extend the engine to SaaS data and MSP-delivered backup as a service.
