Data-Centric Encryption and Persistent Control for Financial Services Communications
APrivacy sells data-centric security to the financial services industry, targeting banks, insurers, private banks and family offices that must exchange sensitive client information under strict regulatory supervision. The business began in Kitchener, Ontario as I Think Security, founded around 2010 by cryptography and key-management researcher Dr. Cedric Jeannot, and was renamed after the company entered Hong Kong's FinTech Innovation Lab accelerator. It has since operated across Canada and Hong Kong, with a Singapore-registered entity handling parts of its Asian business.
Protection is applied at the byte level rather than at the network or endpoint, so security travels with the data wherever it is forwarded or downloaded. Encryption keys are generated on demand, which removes certificate management and lets deployments scale without extra overhead, and recipients open protected content without a password or token. The platform installs as a layer over existing channels: corporate email, WhatsApp, WeChat, Line and Messenger, and file services such as Dropbox, Box and OneDrive. It deploys in cloud or on-premise form with hooks into Active Directory, archiving and DLP.
Persistent control is the distinguishing capability: senders can revoke access to a file or message after it has left, block forwarding, printing, copying and saving, and geo-fence where content may be opened, while every action feeds an audit trail and analytics stream that supports regulatory recordkeeping. A WhatsApp bot product extended the same model to automated customer servicing without API integration. Recognition includes a Hong Kong ICT Awards FinTech silver award in 2018 and a DigiWorld Awards North America laureate placing.
