Wodan AI is a Spanish-Belgian deep-tech startup founded in 2024 by Bob Dubois and Manuel Pérez Yllán, building infrastructure that lets artificial intelligence systems operate directly on encrypted data. In December 2025 Wodan closed a €2 million pre-seed round led by JME Ventures, Swanlaab, and Adara Ventures with participation from ScaleFund, earmarked to scale the company's encrypted AI platform across Europe's most regulated sectors — banking, defense, healthcare, and public administration — where sovereignty and data residency requirements make confidential AI non-negotiable.

CORE FOCUS

Wodan's platform is built on Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), a cryptographic technique that allows mathematical operations to be performed on ciphertext without ever decrypting it. In practice, a data owner encrypts sensitive inputs locally, submits the ciphertext to an AI model for inference or training, and decrypts only the final result. Neither the model operator, the cloud provider, nor any layer of the infrastructure ever sees the raw data — eliminating an entire class of exposure risk that firewalls, DLP, and prompt filters cannot address.

This approach differs fundamentally from guardrail and AI-firewall vendors that inspect prompts and outputs. Wodan's cryptographic model protects data in use, which is the hardest of the three data states to secure and the state where most regulated AI use cases currently break down. The platform is designed for sovereign AI deployments where organizations need to deliver AI benefits without surrendering control of their most sensitive information to foreign clouds or model operators.
