Agentless Cyber Asset Discovery and Exposure Management Across IT, OT and Cloud
runZero is a cybersecurity company that builds an exposure management platform centered on complete asset visibility. Founded in 2018 by HD Moore, the creator of Metasploit, the company was originally named Rumble Network Discovery before rebranding to runZero in 2022. Its platform is designed to find the unknown and unmanaged devices that traditional security tools overlook, spanning IT, operational technology, IoT, cloud, mobile, and remote assets across internal and external attack surfaces.
The platform discovers assets through three complementary methods. Proprietary active scanning fingerprints devices safely, including fragile OT and IoT equipment, without requiring agents, credentials, or appliances. Always-on passive discovery provides continuous coverage where active scanning is not permitted. Pre-built and custom API integrations pull data from cloud providers, EDR, MDM, and vulnerability scanners. Together these unify findings into a single inventory that can reach RFC1918 networks and otherwise unreachable systems.
Beyond inventory, runZero focuses on exposure management that goes past known CVEs to highlight misconfigurations, missing security controls, and risky network paths. It offers attack path mapping, network topology visualization, and contextual risk prioritization, plus compliance reporting aligned with frameworks such as NIST CSF, PCI DSS, DORA, and NIS2. A free Community Edition serves smaller environments, while the commercial product is used by enterprises, manufacturers, universities, and school districts.
