Traveler-Controlled Digital Identity Sharing From the Mobile Passport Team

Airside is a digital identity company best known for Mobile Passport, the app US travelers used to submit customs declarations from a phone, and for its successor product, the Airside Digital Identity app. It serves individual travelers alongside the organizations that need to check documents at a counter or checkpoint: airlines, airports, border agencies, and other relying parties. Onfido acquired Airside in May 2023, and Airside became part of Entrust when Entrust acquired Onfido, so the original airsidemobile.com address now redirects to Entrust.

A user enrolls a passport or driver's license once. The document is verified against trusted data sources, and the resulting credential is encrypted on the device, unlocked with Face ID, Touch ID, or the device PIN held in the phone's keychain rather than an app-specific password. When a service requests identity, the user consents to that specific share and the data travels under end-to-end encryption. An activity log on the phone records what was shared and with whom, so the holder keeps the audit trail.

The design point is holder control: Airside states it does not access or sell the information transmitted through the app, and the credential stays on the user's device rather than in a central identity store. Relying organizations join through Airside's partnership program to accept verified identity at checkpoints and service desks, with consumer distribution through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
